Sometimes called happy and unhappy balls, these 25mm balls illustrate the difference in physical properties between two apparently identical balls. When dropped one ball hardly bounces while the other is very bouncy, differences are also evident when the balls are rolled. Use to investigate Hysteresis and Coefficient of Friction properties. With an instruction sheet covering physical and chemical properties plus experiments.

Demonstrates diametral expansion of metal due to heat. A brass ring with a machined hole is attached to a brass rod on an insulating handle. A close fitting brass ball is attached by a chain. When the ball is heated it no longer fits through the hole. Brass fittings prevent rust. 215mm long. More Info (PDF 204KB).

Bar Breaker
This apparatus demonstrates the forces of contraction and expansion due to heat. A cast iron body carries a steel bar which can be heated either by burning spirits or by an integral gas burner. The apparatus can be used either by heating or cooling. The forces generated can snap a cast iron rod which is passed through the steel bar and locked against the cast body. New quality stackable banana plugs and leads designed by IEC. The banana plugs can be connected to wires by soldering, threading and wrapping or by screwing in place.
