Chladni's plates are an interesting way of demonstrating vibrations in flat plates. Fine sand is sprinkled onto a metal plate which is rigidly supported at its centre. Passing a violin bow across the edge of the plate sets the plate vibrating or 'singing', allowing the behaviour of the sand and plate to be studied as the sand settles into patterns on the plate. The audible 'singing' is created by the plate vibrating at its natural resonant frequency. Contains a round and a square plate with g-clamps attached, violin bow, and very fine sand. Circular Motion Kit
