IEC HODSON INDUCTION KIT
This quality Australian designed and manufactured IEC Hodson Induction Kit enables students to study magnetic induction, transformers and AC/DC motor theory. Students wind their own coils, assemble their own iron circuits, connect to low voltage power supplies and connect amp and volt meters. Mains voltages are not used for safety.

A complete squirrel cage induction motor is part of the kit for investigating this very common style of AC motor. The IEC Hodson Induction Kit is compatible with the popular EM2193-201 IEC Hodson Motor Kit (not included) and this small DC motor will run when the U core is used as the DC field. More advanced AC theory and resonance can be studied by making chokes and using capacitors.

Teachers can adapt the kit for other purposes including measuring the holding strength of an electromagnet, comparing the holding strength between an AC and a DC magnet, making a vibrator or a buzzer, etc.

Note:The EM2193-201 IEC Hodson Motor Kit is sold separately and is not supplied as part of this kit.

Included in a sturdy plastic storage case:
• Set of 16mm thick U laminations mounted in plastic frame
• Set of 16mm thick I laminations mounted in plastic frame
• Empty plastic frame to carry rotor and hold iron cores and devices
• 2 small plastic frames to hold short cores and to carry disc axle
• 16x16mm x 96mm long iron bar
• 16x16mm x 48mm long iron bar x 2
• Red coil bobbin with coil front pre-wound 300 turns and connected to 4mm sockets as the primary coil
• Blue coil bobbin with coil front pre-wound to 600 turns and connected to 4mm sockets as a secondary coil
• Empty yellow and green coil bobbins with coil fronts for winding coils
• Handle for holding bobbins during winding
• AC induction motor with laminated frame, rotor, ball races and end shields
• Large reel of insulated wire for winding all coil bobbins
• Page of self adhesive labels for coils showing coil start, finish and current flow direction
• Instruction sheet and experiment manual

Supplied in a separate zip bag:
• 1 pair red/black, 2 yellow and 2 blue cables with stackable banana plugs
• 3 red and 3 black alligator clips
• 4 brass sockets with lugs and screws to make 4mm sockets for permanent coils
• Plastic rotor (2 halves) to carry small magnets for studying basic AC motor theory
• 2 small cylindrical permanent magnets for placing into plastic rotor
• 75mm long bar magnets x 2 for induction experiments
• Aluminium disc with rubber centre for eddy current experiments
• Axle for supporting and spinning the aluminium disc
• Aluminium ring for Thompson’s Ring demonstration
• 8 elastic bands to stretch tightly between holder legs to pull core together
• Aluminium plate to carry the IEC Hodson DC motor assembly (sold separately)
• Magnetic compass for determining polarity of magnetic poles
